The check valve is a mandatory component of modern pipelines, which is necessary for the normal operation of communications and pipeline fittings.
Check valves are needed for ventilation, heating and sewerage systems, for example, a ball check valve Valve-Daddy flanged. Valves are also used in pipelines intended for the transportation of water, gases and various liquids. They are most often installed on horizontal sections of the pipeline.
The presence of the valve allows you to increase the service life of the pipeline without repair and the need for constant maintenance. Its use allows you to solve several more important operational tasks.
The check valve is necessary in order to prevent the reverse flow of the working medium and the occurrence of excessive pressure, leading to hydraulic shocks. It is installed next to sensitive nodes, with the dysfunction of which expensive equipment, for example, a pumping station, may suffer.
The main functions of the check valve are:
- Pressure stabilization in the system, for example, heating. A check valve for heating is suitable for these purposes;
- Protection against failure of unidirectional shut-off valves.
The check valve for the sewer allows you to avoid a situation when, with a strong blockage, sewage and unpleasant odors enter the apartment.
The valve works on a simple principle. The device allows the working environment to flow in a certain direction. If it changes, then under the force of the flow, the valve automatically closes the communication.
It consists of elements such as:
- Metal housing with pipes for installation in the pipeline. Stainless, carbon steel, brass and cast iron are most often used for manufacturing;
- Locking mechanism equipped with a sealing gasket made of rubber, rubber or nylon.
Depending on the model and the purpose of use, the design may vary slightly.
When choosing a valve, the main importance is played by the diameter of the pipeline and the pressure in the system. There are 3 categories of devices according to the method of installation and scope of application:
- The check valve is flanged. Suitable for vertical and horizontal installation, which allows you to change the system parameters. It has small dimensions, which facilitates the installation or disassembly of the device;
- A flanged check valve is better used for dimensional pipelines. It can be used if the working environment is polluted.
- Welded fittings are highly reliable, but rather difficult to install.
- The check valve coupling is a reverse protective valve that prevents counterflow and hydraulic shocks. It has found its application in household pipelines with a small diameter. It is installed after the water meter. This ensures one-way rotations.
1/2-inch check valve and 1-inch check valve with internal thread are the most popular models of devices designed for metal-plastic and metal pipes.
